Welcome

Due to high demand and a shortage of local mental health providers, I have a full caseload at present.  I encourage you to reach out to other area providers. Thanks for understanding!

I offer therapy in my office, as well as videoconferencing psychotherapy (telehealth) through a secure HIPAA-compliant psychotherapy platform.  Please contact me and we can discuss your therapy needs.

Do you long to feel capable, secure, and supported?

As humans, suffering is universal and inevitable.  Our response to suffering shapes our character, our relationships, and our mental, physical, and spiritual health.  We all need support and guidance through difficult times. It is an honor for me to accompany and guide you through the most difficult issues you face.

Perhaps you have people in your life who make you feel guilty, hopeless, or frustrated.  Perhaps you have always felt that you were "different" or that you didn't belong. You may struggle with serious health or mental illness issues that get in the way of your hopes and dreams for your life. You may be facing a transition in your career or your significant relationships that makes you feel stressed to your breaking point. For some clients, a few sessions of supportive counseling can get them through a difficult transition or help them make a tough decision.  Other clients are gaining insight about how their relationships (past and present) affect their sense of identity and their well-being through Relational Psychodynamic Therapy.  Clients with mood and anxiety disorders may focus exclusively on relieving their most troubling symptoms using Cognitive Behavior Therapy.  Mindfulness-based techniques and interventions offer clients specific practices to improve their coping skills for stress, anxiety, OCD, trauma, and depression.  Clients can use between sessions for sustainable change. This work is done in an atmosphere of emotional warmth and caring support with acceptance for where you are right now and my optimism for who you are becoming.

Through my experience as a researcher, an educator, and a clinician, I know that everyone has an inner strength and a force for positive growth that can flourish once barriers to wellness are removed. I would be privileged to help you lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. By applying evidence-based, scientifically supported therapy approaches and techniques, I will help you unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

What makes me different from other psychotherapists? My educational background, combined with the experience of over a decade in private practice, gives me a different kind of expertise, informed by the unconventional path I took to becoming a clinical psychologist.  I have a strong background in neuroscience, and understanding how the brain and body are affected by our mental states (and vice versa).  My Ph.D. is in Cognition and Cognitive Neuroscience, which I followed up with 4 years of post-doctoral coursework in clinical psychology. Although I don't necessarily recommend attending ten years of graduate school, I am fortunate that I can use my education to help my patients. In addition, a 2-year doctoral internship allowed me to access training and consultation working with clients on a long-term basis to learn and refine psychodynamic interventions. The current emphasis on short-term treatment suits insurance companies, but often fails to address the deeper roots of our suffering.  My unique background helps me to communicate with you what is happening in your brain-mind-body as you experience anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, and different emotional states. It also allows me to design a treatment plan for you that takes your unique brain organization into account. If you’ve been in therapy before and wanted to know what the mechanism of action is, or why it works (or hasn’t worked yet) for you, I can help you find answers. If you want to learn more about how brain functions support mental health, and how we become "stuck" in unhelpful patterns, I may be good fit for your needs.

If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction in your life, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.
